I am “coming home” to Durham where I grew up to visit my retired father and would love to know what’s being recommended as restaurants serving good and exciting food. I’ve noted Poole’s, the Lantern and some others but, in reality, Dad has retired to Beaufort, on the coast, and I’ll not be in the Triangle for dinner, only lunch. Any recommendations? Also, if you have ideas in Beaufort, let me know please.

Hi Allen! For lunch I would go with Parker & Otis (great Southern food), Dos Perros (inspired, updated Mexican), or Toast (an Italian paninoteca). All are located downtown and all are some of my favorite spots for lunch.
